Diamond & Pearl—Majestic Dawn
Vaporeon
|
By Martin Galgoczy
The healer of Team Eevee, Vaporeon's (Majestic Dawn, 34/100) Cleanse Away attack does a solid 30 damage for a single Water
Energy. At the same time, it heals your entire team for a respectable 20 damage each—that's up to
100 damage healed if you have a full Bench! Vaporeon doesn’t heal itself, but with 90 HP, it’s not
going down easily. For another 2 Colorless Energy, Vaporeon can launch its Hyper Whirlpool attack,
which sends the Defending Pokémon into a spiral of Energy loss. If you’re a lucky flipper, Vaporeon
leaves the Defending Pokémon devoid of any Energy!
|
Jolteon
|
By Martin Galgoczy
The versatile attacker of Team Eevee, Jolteon (Majestic Dawn, 23/100) comes stocked with a pair of shocking attacks. Thunder Fang
inflicts 20 damage for 1 Lightning Energy, which is fine, but more important it gives you a 50-50
chance of Paralyzing the Defending Pokémon! Jolteon can stun an opponent and leave it open for a
teammate’s attack—after all, its Retreat Cost is free. Jolteon's Lightning Strike attack
stings for a solid 50 damage, and if that’s not enough to do the trick, discard 2 Energy of your
choice to boost that damage to a respectable 90!
|
Umbreon
|
By Martin Galgoczy
Umbreon (Majestic Dawn, 32/100) is one of two Eevee evolutions that does great in a supporting
role. Its Moonlight Veil Poké-Body will strip all of your Pokémon that evolve from Eevee of their
Weaknesses AND their Retreat Costs. This Poké-Body makes it more difficult to get into a pinch and
way easier to get out of one! For 1 Darkness and 2 Colorless Energy, Umbreon can use Confuse
Ray. This attack delivers a hearty 50 damage and is accompanied by an assured Confused
Special Condition. Umbreon is the only Eevee evolution that leaves its effect on the
Defending Pokémon without the need for a coin flip.
|
Flareon
|
By Martin Galgoczy
The tank of Team Eevee, Flareon's (Majestic Dawn, 19/100) Fire Fang attack costs only 1 Fire Energy and will leave a 30-HP
dent in the Defending Pokémon. But that's just the start—flip heads, and you’ll leave the opponent
Burned as well! That’s 20 more damage waiting to happen right there. For another 2 Colorless
Energy, Flareon can fire its Kindle attack for 70 damage. The damage comes at the price of
discarding 1 Energy card, but Flareon likes to even the odds—you get to discard an Energy card from
the Defending Pokémon as well. This Pokémon is bound to heat up the arena!
|
Espeon
|
By Martin Galgoczy
The second supporter of Team Eevee, Espeon (Majestic Dawn, 18/100) is a Pokémon that's always ready to lend a helping paw. Espeon's
Sunlight Veil Poké-Body will boost the HP of all your Pokémon that evolve from Eevee by a pleasant
20 HP, putting each of them in the comfortable 100+ HP range. For 1 Psychic and 2 Colorless Energy,
Espeon can use its Morning Sun attack, which strikes for 60 and allows you to move an Energy card
to 1 of your Benched Pokémon. This is great if you suspect that Espeon isn’t going to see your next
turn.
|
Call Energy
|
Call Energy (Majestic Dawn, 92/100) is a new Special Energy card designed to help you set up your game
in a hurry. Call Energy provides 1 Colorless Energy, and while attached to your Active Pokémon it
allows you to search your deck for up to 2 Basic Pokémon and put them onto your Bench. Call Energy
works very well with Phione's Evolution Wish attack. Use Call Energy to pull out Basic Pokémon,
then use Evolution Wish the following turn to evolve one of those Pokémon.
|
Mom's Kindness
|
Who's there when you need her most? Mom, of course! The new Mom's Kindness (Majestic Dawn, 83/100) Supporter card is simple but effective. When times get rough, call
on Mom's Kindness to allow you to draw 2 cards—no strings attached. Thanks, Mom!
|
Torterra
|
Weighing in at a hefty 683 pounds and 140 Hit Points, Torterra (Majestic Dawn, 30/100) stomps onto the scene ready to throw its weight around. Torterra's
Earthquake attack is powerful enough to strike the Defending Pokémon for 60 damage, and then
hit each of your Benched Pokémon with 10 damage from the aftershock. Frenzy Plant inflicts a
devastating 100 damage, but the attack requires 4 Energy to execute. This onslaught will very
frequently score a K.O., but pace yourself because Torterra can only use it once every other turn.
|
Darkrai
|
Darkrai (Majestic Dawn, 3/100) premiered in
Great Encounters, and the Pitch-Black Pokémon now returns for more action in Majestic
Dawn. This time, Darkrai comes with a Darkness Shade Poké-Power that allows you to select 1
Defending Pokémon and cause it to fall Asleep the moment you bring Darkrai from your hand to the
Bench. Darkrai's Dark Resolve attack delivers 40 damage, and if the Defending Pokémon is Asleep,
you can remove 4 damage counters from Darkrai. Eyelids get very heavy when Darkrai is around, and
your opponents' dreams will be far from peaceful when the snoring starts.
|
Empoleon
|
Empoleon (Majestic Dawn, 17/100) is strong enough to be the star of any deck, especially when you
consider that it can progress one step further into Empoleon LV.X (Diamond & Pearl, 120/130). Its Dual Splash attack lets you select 2 of your opponent's
Pokémon, and then hand out 30 damage to each of them. Empoleon's second attack, Surf Together, is a
devastating force if you have a well-stocked Bench. Surf Together begins with a base damage of 50
and gains 10 more damage for each of your Benched Pokémon. But beware the risk—the attack requires
you to flip a coin, and you must apply 10 damage to each of your own Benched Pokémon if you get
tails.
|
Phione
|
At last—the Sea Drifter Pokémon Phione (Majestic Dawn, 12/100) glides into action! Phione's Evolution Wish attack delivers major
pull power, allowing you to search your deck for a card that evolves from 1 of your Pokémon and
immediately put it onto that Pokémon. Evolution Wish doesn't do any damage, but it's a great way to
set up your strategy. When it's time to dole out damage, Water Pulse strikes for 30 damage and
leaves the Defending Pokémon Asleep. Don't let Phione's friendly way fool you—this Water-type
Pokémon means business!
|
Infernape
|
Sporting a crown of fire, Infernape (Majestic Dawn, 22/100) is a Stage 2 Fire-type Pokémon that doesn't pull any punches. In
fact, its Mach Punch attack lands for 30 damage and also smacks 1 of your opponent's Benched
Pokémon for an extra 10 damage. Infernape's Mega Bravo attack does 40 damage for the surprisingly
low cost of 1 Fire Energy. Add more Fire Energy and watch the damage multiply—Mega Bravo will do 40
damage for each Fire Energy attached to Infernape. The only downside is that Infernape discards all
of its Fire Energy—it's lucky that the attacks are so quick to use!
|
Cresselia
|
If Cresselia (Majestic Dawn, 2/100) had arms, it most certainly would have a trick or two carefully
tucked up its sleeve. Said to represent the crescent moon, Cresselia's Future Sight attack allows
you to peek at the top 5 cards of either player's deck, and then return them to the top of the deck
in any order you see fit. Played at the proper time, this enlightening tactic could either serve up
the card you need, or prevent your opponent from doing the same. Cresselia's Healing Light attack
scores for 40 damage and removes 1 damage counter from each of your Pokémon. Considering the five
Pokémon you could have on your Bench and Cresselia itself, that's a potential turnaround of 100
damage (with 60 damage recovered, and 40 damage delivered).
|
Leafeon
|
Leafeon (Majestic Dawn, 7/100) is known to leave fresh air in its wake, but that doesn't mean your
competition will be breathing easy when this Grass-type Pokémon comes into play. Leafeon's first
attack, Bind Down, inflicts 30 damage and prevents the Defending Pokémon from retreating on the
next turn. This will likely give you the time you need to power up the Leaf Guard attack for your
next move, which can score an additional 60 damage and reduce damage done to Leafeon by 20 on your
opponent's next turn. To top it off, Illustrator Kouki Saikou's interpretation of Leafeon shows the
Verdant Pokémon in an action pose that proves this Pokémon comes out ready to battle!
|
Glaceon
|
Glaceon (Majestic Dawn, 5/100) is one of two brand-new Eevee evolutions found in
Diamond & Pearl—Majestic Dawn. The Fresh Snow Pokémon comes equipped with two
attacks—each boasting some effective attributes. Glaceon's Snow Cloak attack deals 30 damage and
can protect it from all effects of your opponent's next attack with a successful coin flip.
Meanwhile, Speed Slide can put the freeze on your opponent's strategies since it can hit for 60
damage and is completely unaffected by Resistance, Poké-Powers, Poké-Bodies, or any other effects
on the Defending Pokémon.
