Pokémon TCG Weather Report
By Steffanie Saw
The powerful Stormfront is here! Today’s forecast? Fun!
The new
Pokémon TCG:
Diamond & Pearl—Stormfront expansion makes the weather really something to talk about.
Let’s take a close look at some of the great Stormfront cards that will make your holiday season
more exciting!
The hat-and-scarf weather makes this the perfect time of year for
Abomasnow
(
Stormfront, 12/100) to come out and play. Its Snow Play attack does 20 damage to each of
your opponent’s Pokémon, excluding Water and Grass types. Proving that it plays well with others,
Abomasnow’s Snow Veil Poké-Body reduces any damage done to your Pokémon by an opponent’s attack by
20. It doesn’t get much cooler than that!
Allergy sufferers, take heed! An abundance of Grass-type Pokémon such as
Cherrim
(
Stormfront, 14/100) and
Combee
(
Stormfront, 57/100) are predicted to create large concentrations of airborne pollen this
week. Cherrim’s Salty-sweet Pollen attack requires no Energy to perform, zings the Defending
Pokémon for 20 damage, and allows you to remove 2 damage counters from 1 of your Pokémon. And
remember your sunglasses because Cherrim’s Sunny Day Poké-Body loads up each of your Grass- and
Fire-type Pokémon’s attacks with 10 more damage!
Honey is a great way to soothe sore throats in flu season, and it also comes in handy as
Combee’s Held Item. Combee’s Honey allows you to search your discard pile for a Basic Pokémon, and
then put it onto your Bench when you put Combee from your hand onto your Bench. Sweet!
Expect blustery breezes throughout the week thanks to
Staraptor's
(
Stormfront, 27/100) Strong Breeze attack. This airborne Pokémon is stirring up a storm by
blowing away 1 of your opponent’s Benched Pokémon and all the cards attached to it, landing them on
top of your opponent’s deck! The emergence of
Cyclone
Energy (
Stormfront, 94/100) certainly doesn’t calm things down. It whips up a strategic storm by
forcing your opponent to unexpectedly switch his or her Defending Pokémon with a Benched Pokémon.
Meanwhile, a dramatic increase in
Gyarados
(
Stormfront, 19/100) throughout the region is causing experts to issue a severe weather
warning. Gyarados’s Wreak Havoc attack does 40 damage and allows you to flip a coin until you get
tails. For each heads, you get to discard the top card from your opponent’s deck. Adding to its
potential for mayhem, Gyarados’s Dragon Beat attack lands for 100 damage, and then allows you to
discard an Energy card from each of your opponent’s Pokémon if you flip heads.
For players planning to attend Pokémon Organized Play tournaments this season, be sure to
keep a close eye on the weather forecast. You never know what surprises will be waiting with the
new cards in
Diamond & Pearl—Stormfront!
